Ramin Heydarbeygi

Ramin Heydarbeygi’s works have been performed throughout the US and in Iran, and has been featured at international music festivals.  He is the recipient of several awards, including an award from the New York State Council on the Arts, from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, and two BRIO awards.  He has also conducted numerous world, US and New York premieres by various composers from Armenia, Bulgaria, Canada, the Republic of Georgia, the Ukraine, Iran and the US, among others, and has recorded for the Capstone label.

About his piece for the New Art Songs project (2012):

Astvihaad, the title of my song cycle, refers to the demon of death in the Iranian tradition.  I have used a number of poems relating directly and indirectly to this subject.  The poems are mostly in modern Persian, from the 9th century to the present, and in the Gathic or old Avestan language."
